Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Position Summary
The Personnel Scout will be a vital asset in the transformation of North Carolina Football under Head Coach, Bill Belichick and General Manager, Michael Lombardi. This role is dedicated to identifying, evaluating, and securing top talent through in-depth scouting and player analysis, ultimately strengthening North Carolina Football's long-term success by maintaining a pipeline of elite athletes. The Personnel Scout will play a key role in ensuring that the Football Program recruits and retains high-caliber athletes who align with the team's competitive and strategic objectives. The impact of this position will enhance the Carolina Football program's talent acquisition through innovative scouting and evaluation methods; provide actionable insights to improve roster construction and recruiting efficiency and align the scouting department with the professional-caliber standards set by Coach Belichick and GM Lombardi.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Extensive experience in collegiate football scouting, player personnel, or recruiting analysis. Strong ability to evaluate talent based on film study, in-person scouting, and statistical analysis. Proficiency in football scouting software, data analytics tools, and performance evaluation metrics. Excellent organizational and communication skills to interact with coaches, players, and key stakeholders. Deep understanding of NCAA compliance, recruiting regulations, and transfer portal processes. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while meeting tight deadline.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Previous experience in a Power Five conference scouting or recruiting department. A track record of identifying and advocating for under-the-radar talent that later succeeded at the next level. Knowledge of modern scouting techniques, including analytical modeling and data-driven evaluations.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Valid NC Driver's License
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
May be required to lift/move 25 lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Must be able to manage a fast-paced, high volume work environment. Attention to detail essential. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. Travel required.
