Position Summary
Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as hybrid. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.

This Public Communications Specialist position is a key member of the Department of Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery staff, contributing to its success through the oversight of internal and external communications and strong administrative support.

Key responsibilities include:
* Strategic Communications: Developing and executing communication strategies, managing public relations, and ensuring consistent branding across all platforms.
* Digital Presence: Overseeing website content, managing social media channels, and optimizing online presence.
* Educational Program Management: Coordinating logistics, scheduling, and participant registration for departmental educational courses.
* Administrative Support: Providing administrative support to faculty and staff, including calendar management, travel arrangements, and expense processing.

This position requires excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with a strong understanding of digital media and best practices.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience in communications, marketing, branding, public relations, or a related field, with a proven ability in managing website design and content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, and candidates should be able to work and communicate effectively and professionally with diverse populations.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team is essential.
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and judgment are required.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Ability to establish and achieve work related goals.
  • Knowledge of the University's and Department's programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of disseminating information to the public via various channels, including print, web, email, and both existing and emerging social media platforms.
