The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an outgoing and organized student who enjoys working with a variety of people, finds satisfaction in successfully completing administrative tasks, and would be comfortable hosting public tours and representing SDL at K-12 STEM outreach events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Learn and host SDL evening public tours (6:00pm -7:00pm twice a month)
- Help coordinate and support a variety of K-12 outreach events such as STEM and Career fairs, Science Unwrapped, and school groups at SDL
- Generate ideas, update outreach materials, improve processes, track, and communicate results
- Help provide content for SDL's newsfeed and social media teams
- Be a team player
- Work in a positive, cooperative, and friendly manner with co-workers and community members
- Help maintain and update outreach program events, metrics, and processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
- Must be a current student at Utah State University majoring in any business, engineering, or science discipline with a 3.0+ GPA
- Must be enthusiastic, innovative, and enjoy working with internal and external customers
- Must have outstanding communication skills - excellent listening skills, effective and clear speaking and writing skills
- An interest in technology, science and/or space is a plus
- Ability to handle multiple demands, remain calm, think quickly, and problem solve
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team within established guidelines
- Attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities
- Must be able to work 15-20 hours during semesters and up to 40 hours during summers
- Must be able to work 2 evenings each month and up to 6 evenings on occasion, and 1-3 Saturdays each year (to support STEM events)
- Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in speaking and giving professional presentations
- Passion for learning and ability to take complex topics and make them understandable to a diverse audience
- Computer proficiency and detailed working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Must be able to carry and lift 25-50 lbs. occasionally to complete job-related duties
