Chemical Analysis Lab Technician

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Lab Technician to support various internal operations and programs within the Materials Process Engineering group. This position will assist the Chemical Analysis Service Center manager with various daily tasks involving critical sample preparation, handling, and analysis. The applicant should be dependable, self-motivated and can work independently with little oversight in a research laboratory environment and manage various hands-on technical problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary Duties:
    • Support chemical analysis service center operations and become proficient in running sensitive equipment and instrumentation including FTIR, GCMS, microscopy, microbalances, and titrimetric analysis
    • Work in small teams to accomplish various wet chemistry tasks and sample analysis
    • Data processing and the ability to generate test reports, traveler entries, calibration certifications and equipment maintenance records
    • Perform meticulous surface preparation, masking, and other preparatory tasks to ensure optimal paint application and finish.
    • Manage weekly work plans provided by the supervisor, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and providing progress reports to the supervisor
    • Maintain painting equipment, tools, and supplies, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
  • Secondary Technical Support Duties:
    • Read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams as needed
    • Collaborate with other personnel and departments to provide technical support
    • Perform special materials processes such as precision cleaning of sensitive parts
    • Assist with chemical etching and surface preparation processes
    • Participate in the overwatch of sensitive thermal vacuum testing campaigns

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • At least one semester of chemistry lab experience or equivalent experience in an industrial setting
  • Ability to perform meticulous surface preparation and masking
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Basic knowledge of technical support functions, such as assembly and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams
  • Physical capability to perform activities involving substantial use of arms, legs, and the full body, including climbing, lifting (approximately 50 lbs.), balancing, walking, and handling materials
  • Must be able to spend extended periods standing
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
