* Temporary staff employees are ineligible to receive benefits (leave, health coverage, State service credit, etc.). They are, however, covered by Worker's Compensation provisions.
However, any non-permanent employee hired to work 30 or more hours per week for three months or more (cumulative of all positions, and not designated as variable hour worker), must be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan, within 30 days of their eligibility. Any non-permanent employee hired to work less than 30 hours per week (cumulative of all positions or designated as variable hour worker - i.e. student workers) are measured during designated measurement periods. If they average 30 or more hours per week over a designated measurement period, they will be offered the chance to enroll in the High Deductible Health Plan and will be notified of instructions.

Minimum Experience/Education
Must be a current graduate student enrolled in a Higher Education Master's Program (orequivalent) at the start of the internship.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Candidate must exhibit qualities that will further the fraternal movement, a care for student success, patience, determination, ability to work independently, dedication, trustworthiness, interest in achieving excellence, flexibility, and professionalism.
  • Greek experience in a national organization, desire to put theory into practice, experience with a rapidly growing fraternity and sorority community, experience at a mid-sized, public institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The summer intern for the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL) will work directly with the Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director(s) to develop their professional skills as a student affairs practitioner.
  • The intern will present to over 3,500 incoming students and their families about the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life during new student orientation, work with local businesses and campus partners to coordinate the senior transition program -TELOS, develop new member curriculum alongside the Assistant Director, implement various educational resources and opportunities for the Greek community, participate in an office-wide guided reading, and other duties as assigned.
  • The role can be adjusted to the specific interest of the intern and duties, responsibilities, and projects may be altered to fit the specific individual in the role. This intern will act as a fifth professional staff member in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and will be treated as a professional throughout their internship at UNC Charlotte.
