GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Chief Development Officer reports to the President/CEO and serves as a valued member of the Presidents Cabinet. This position provides an essential role in the growth of Randolph Community College 2.0 by serving as the development officer and providing strategic direction, vision, and management of the colleges Foundation. This role includes friend raising, annual and major gift/fundraising, capital campaigns, and developing and maintaining positive donor and community relations.
**This position has the potential to receive an annual performance-based bonus if certain development goals are met during the year.**
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Five years of successful experience in fundraising, development, or community outreach. Strong industry knowledge and familiarity with the local business community. Strong knowledge and connection with the college community. Superior ability to develop and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of constituents. Proven flexibility to creatively conceive and adapt different fundraising approaches.
Preferred: Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in non-profit management. Experience with capital campaigns. Development experience in a higher education setting.
DUTIES: Primary responsibilities: Advance RCCs mission and goals by creating a climate of public understanding, acceptance, and support. Establish and cultivate relationships with various agencies, foundations, private enterprises, governmental bodies, public offices, and individuals for the benefit of RCC and the RCC Foundation. Provide dynamic leadership and vision for RCC Foundation and development efforts of the College. This includes overseeing operational planning, budgeting, reporting, fundraising, alumni relations, donor relations and other external relations. Develop and execute the Foundations development and operations plans. Supervise the RCC Foundation Operations Manager, including evaluations and salary adjustment recommendations. Monitor funding requests from RCC to the RCC Foundation. Retain and strengthen the pool of current donors. Elevate RCC Foundations visibility in the community. Facilitate the expansion of financial resources.
Development: Develop annual and multi-year fundraising goals that include expected revenue and sources and creating a detailed work plan to accomplish goals. Evaluate the status of fundraising activities and expected revenues from prospects and project funding on a multi-year basis. Work with college administrators and key program staff to identify priority areas and strategic opportunities for funding, including alliances and collaborations with individual donors and industries. Identify ways to make RCC Foundations existing revenue-generating activities more predictable, lucrative, and sustainable over a multi-year period.
Prospecting, Cultivation, and Stewardship: Identify and research potential new sources of funding, including foundations and individuals, and private and governmental/public grant opportunities, through research, with external partners and staff, and stay current on trends and opportunities. Identify and cultivate non-foundation institutional donors e.g. businesses and associations. Track and document contacts, activities, and status related to all funders and prospects. Guide the development of prospect materials such as funding proposals/applications. Meet with and/or arrange meetings for key staff with current and prospective funders. Ensure that current donors receive timely updates and reports and are included in key organizational activities such as the annual gala. Work with marketing/communications staff to develop informational materials. Maximize the functionality of the Foundations database to support donor cultivation and relationship management.
