The Greenville News, part of the USA Today Network, is recruiting for a statehouse/politics reporter in Greenville, South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be aggressive and can deliver exclusive reporting on state government and politics. We seek a strong journalist who excels at producing enterprise and watchdog work that makes a difference and can lead to the changing of laws. A major emphasis will be on holding officials accountable, but this reporter's portfolio also must extend beyond what's happening in the statehouse to include almost anything that affects the lives of people in South Carolina, from politics and ethics reform to how taxpayer money is spent. The reporter will write a weekly politics column. This reporter will also understand and keep up with significant issues in Greenville County. The candidate should also have the ability to write quick, digestible, and digitally engaging content and understand how to use social media and SEO to draw in audiences. Responsibilities also include working with reporters across Gannett's USA TODAY Network to develop enterprise that explores issues important to South Carolina residents. A background in government or politics reporting is preferred; a deep curiosity about trends is a must. This reporter also must demonstrate a commitment to fair and accurate reporting and will be expected to break exclusive news. The reporter also must be able to translate government and political speak into clean copy that is clear and tells reader what's important and how it truly affects them. Other responsibilities:
