2025 Summer Intern - Research Oncology Department

Department Summary

The Jaeger group in the Research Oncology Department focuses on the discovery and development of targets and strategies to improve the activity of T-cell bispecific (TCB) antibodies for solid tumors. TCBs are designed to bind T-cells and tumor cell antigens simultaneously, resulting in T-cell killing of the tumor cell. In hematological malignancies, TCBs such as Genentech's Glofitamab have shown both high and durable response rates, leading to Glofitamab's recent FDA approval for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, TCBs targeting solid tumors face particular challenges that require further study.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated summer intern who will use molecular and cell biology techniques to validate novel targets for boosting TCB action against solid tumor targets. This opportunity will enable the candidate to gain practical experience working in the immune therapy field, in a supportive environment.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on site.

The Opportunity

Working closely with lab members to:

• Design and perform in vitro experiments using with primary immune cells and cancer-immune cell co-cultures

• Process samples generated from in vivo experiments, perform multi-color flow cytometry and operate associated instruments and software

• Analyze and interpret experimental results to inform future project directions

• Communicate and present their work to the research community at Genentech

Program Highlights

• Intensive 12-week, full time (40 hours per week) paid internship

• Program start dates are flexible beginning in May/June (Summer)

• A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship

Who You Are:

Required Education:

• Pursuing (enrolled student) or recently completed a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience culturing human primary T cells and cancer cell lines

• Technical expertise with genome engineering (CRISPR/Cas9) and molecular biology techniques (DNA, RNA, PCR, Western Blotting) is desirable

• Familiarity with commonly used programs such as Benchling, Snapgene, FlowJo is also beneficial

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

Required Majors: Cancer immunology, oncology, molecular biology, or a related field

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of STATE is $45 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
