Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Weight Management Specialist to join our Health Engagement and Promotion department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Capitol Hill, Washington DC with a hybrid work model.

Reporting to a Senior Director of Health Engagement and Promotion, the Weight Management Specialist will organize all aspects of the new, multi-disciplinary Center for Healthy Weight and Lifestyle Medicine in Kaiser Permanente Mid Atlantic States (KPMAS) region. The Center for Healthy Weight and Lifestyle Medicine will integrate and expand current KPMAS weight management virtual and in-person services, including healthy lifestyle classes, longitudinal weight loss programs (such as the Diabetes Prevention Program), the Lifestyle Medicine (LSM) Physician program, the Medical Weight Management (meal replacement) Fee-For-Service Program, and bariatric surgery.
You can expect to:
- Collaborate with health educators, physicians, nutritionists, nurses, and other stakeholders to ensure positive patient outcomes through effective integration within multi-disciplinary specialty teams across the care continuum
- Serve as a point of contact for referring physicians and patients to provide resources and help coordinate care between various programs ensuring that patients have a seamless weight loss journey
- Facilitate weekly virtual orientation classes for groups of 15-20 Kaiser Permanente (KP) patients to provide an overview of lifestyle changes for weight loss and information on resources, classes, and programs available
- Support Physician Lead (s) with coordinating and facilitating regular center-wide meetings with all stakeholders to ensure continued cross collaboration between departments including managing scheduling, agenda development, supporting
- Physician Lead (s) in holding complex case presentations
- Manage the intake requests to assist with scheduling patients into various weight loss programs and documents any required notes, including outreach in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
- Maintain accurate records and ensure confidentiality of data collected through health education and training activities
What is required:
- Bachelor's degree in health education, health promotion, public health, psychology, nutrition or another relevant field is required
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience with leading classes, motivational interviewing /healthy lifestyle behavior change
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credentials are preferred or must be obtained within one year of being hired
- Demonstrated knowledge of health education and promotion, adult learning theory and methodologies, motivational interviewing, health behavior change, social determinants of health and cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Superior oral, written, and interpersonal communication and customer service skills including the ability to motivate others
- Ability to speak Spanish is highly preferred
- Must be able to commute to our regional office located in Capitol Hill, Washington DC and Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States region on an as needed basis
- Must be able to work afterhours or on weekends on an as needed basis
- Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
- Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
- Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $62,712.22 to $78,390.11 depending on circumstances including an applicant's skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors.
