Organization: Office of Legal Ethics Counsel and Advisory Committee of the Supreme Court of Missouri Position Title: Staff Counsel About the office: The Office of Legal Ethics Counsel is a dedicated and collaborative division that responds to inquiries and offers resources to lawyers on ethical matters. Pursuant to Rule 5.30(c), the Legal Ethics Counsel, on behalf of the Advisory Committee, may provide informal advisory opinions interpreting Missouri Supreme Court Rules 4, 5, and 6 in response to telephone and written ethics questions from lawyers. What you will do: The primary role of this position is to answer ethics questions with a high degree of communication and professionalism by providing informal advisory opinions about lawyers’ prospective conduct under the Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct. This is an excellent opportunity to assist fellow Missouri lawyers. This position may also assist in the development of ethics educational information for lawyers, such as CLE programs, website resource pages, etc. This position has other responsibilities pursuant to the Missouri Supreme Court rules listed above and will perform additional duties as assigned. The Staff Counsel reports to the Legal Ethics Counsel, working closely together to ensure consistency and professionalism. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must be a Missouri lawyer in good standing. At least five years’ relevant legal experience is desired. Practice experience with the Rules of Professional Conduct, professional responsibility, or a background in legal ethics is also preferred. Training will be provided. Office Location and Information: This position is located in Jefferson City, MO and the office operates Monday-Friday 8: 00 a.m. – 5: 00 p.m., with an opportunity for partial remote work. We are a small office with a collegial work environment. It is part of the Missouri attorney regulatory system pursuant to Rule 5.07(b), but this is not a State of Missouri position.
