MOBILE MUSEUM EDUCATION SPECIALIST

The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a Mobile Museum Education Specialist to assist in managing a hands-on, interactive, and immersive “museum on wheels,” the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience titled “Out of Many, One.” It will be housed in a quad-expandable tractor trailer that will travel throughout Virginia and beyond, beginning in late 2024. The mobile museum will bring key stories of Virginia’s rich history to schools, museums, local events, fairs, and more, highlighting every region of the state.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with design of appropriate educational materials regarding the American Revolution for use at schools and other deployments
- Coordinate visits of school groups to the Mobile Museum with the Virginia Department of Education and local school divisions with final approval by VA250 Commission
- Provide primary support to the VA250 Mobile Museum Project Manager
- Supervise VA250 Mobile Museum part-time staff in absence of Project Manager
- Collaborate with Project Manager, VA250 Commission, and VTC staff to develop an operations and logistics manual for the Mobile Museum Tour program
- Assist in development of an advance packet to send to localities that specifies requirements for hosting the Mobile Museum Tour and ensure compliance of requirements during deployment at a site
- Assist in development of preliminary schedules and venue selections for Mobile Museum Tour visits and submit to Commission for final approval
- Assist with administering any retail operations/donation collections associated with Mobile Museum Tour
- Assist with preparation of monthly reports tracking event results and overall program progress
- Assist with scheduling of repairs and maintenance of support vehicles when required
- Considerable travel within Virginia and surrounding states, up to 40 weeks per year

- Proficiency using multiple software packages including Microsoft Office Suite
Experience:
- Creating and implementing educational programs to engage visitors; experience with student and/or children’s programming is a plus
- At least 2 years’ experience in marketing, hospitality, event management, or related field preferred
- Awareness of sociological and political aspects of the American Revolution and founding of our nation
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and clean driving record required
- Experience driving a ¾ ton truck or greater with trailer is a plus
