Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a part-time public safety officer to patrol the college campus by vehicle and on foot, and complete security checks on all campus buildings to provide a safe working and learning environment for college employees and students.
This position is considered an "essential employee" and as such, may be required to report during non-scheduled days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays to assist with snow removal and other work situations.
Essential Duties
The following list is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all responsibilities, skills or working conditions associated with this position.
- Patrols the campus by foot, vehicle patrol and using video surveillance, and responds to emergencies appropriately, using defensive weapons tactics, handcuffs, capsicum spray and/or a baton when necessary; completes security checks on all campus buildings, including opening and securing buildings and classrooms, activating and de-activating the alarm system; responds to any calls for assistance and reports any safety or maintenance problems to facilities management
- Enforces parking regulations and issues parking tickets when necessary
- Responds to emergencies, providing CPR and AED response when needed
- Directs students to student parking areas and jumpstarts and unlocks vehicles as needed
- Writes necessary reports as directed
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or the equivalent; must become certified in defensive weapons tactics, handcuffs, capsicum spray and baton usage during the introductory period through Wor-Wic offered training
- Must complete training and other steps required to obtain and/or maintain a security guard card prior to January 2025
- Five years of experience in law enforcement or security
- Basic computer skills
- Inventory management skills
- Satisfactory completion of a medical examination that demonstrates the incumbent has the required health and physical strength to respond to emergency situations
- Completion of a pre-employment drug test with satisfactory results
- Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
- AED/CPR and first aid certifications
- Satisfactory criminal and child protective services background checks
Supplemental Information
This is a part-time standard support staff position and includes some benefits. The pay will likely range from $22.92/hour to $26.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience. ___________ Days and Hours of work are variable (approximately 25 hours per week) and include afternoon/evening and intermittent weekend hours.
