Assistant Counselor (Counseling Services) SUNY Broome Community College seeks a full-time, 12 month, tenure track Assistant Counselor for the Counseling Services Department to manage personal and mental health issues. Extensive knowledge and a strong skill set around crisis counseling/response and management required. Counselors also serve as a resource to support faculty and staff in matters related to students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Counseling students in the areas of mental health and psychosocial matters, short-term therapy, risk assessment, crisis counseling/response, small group counseling, and wellness programs.
A minimum of a Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related area as a Qualified Health Professional and two years of experience in an educational institution, public agency or industry in the area of counseling is required; three years of comparable experience is preferred. The candidate must hold a professional license in a related mental health field and be eligible to work in the State of New York. The ideal candidate will possess experience providing counseling to under-represented and multi-cultural populations, to support SUNY Broome’s goals of cultivating a supportive, diverse, and inclusive community. Candidates comfortable in a student-centered environment and committed to the community college mission are encouraged to apply. The annual salary for this position, depending on experience, starts at $67,820. Offers of employment will be conditional based upon the results of a satisfactory, required pre-employment Standard Background Check.
