Clinical Assistant Professor in Secondary Science Education

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Science Education Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor in Secondary Science Education.

This is an academic year clinical faculty position with reappointments in 3-year contractual terms. Clinical appointments are non-tenure track but with the potential for promotion in rank. The position also includes the possibility of summer employment. This position requires an on-campus, face-to-face presence.

Responsibilities include:

• Teaching 3 undergraduate-level secondary science pedagogy courses and/or graduate courses in science education each fall and spring semester (6 total courses per academic year)
• Supervising secondary science student teaching candidates
• Supporting state and national program review processes for the science education teacher licensure programs
• Collaborating on teaching, research, and engagement activities within the College of Education, across the university, and with K-12 schools
• Advising graduate students and serving on graduate student committees
• Participating in program, department, college, and university committees

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Opportunities exist for the development of online courses and graduate courses, as well as collaboration with centers including the Center for Advancing the Teaching and Learning of STEM (CATALYST) an interdisciplinary center in the College of Education with faculty, staff and graduate students from science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education (https://education.purdue.edu/catalyst/).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Earned doctorate in science education or closely related field, with an emphasis in secondary science education
• Earned undergraduate degree in a science discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, earth/space science, physics/astronomy) or secondary science education with the equivalent of a minor in a science discipline
• Three or more years of teaching or equivalent school-based experience in middle or high schools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience teaching undergraduate-level secondary science pedagogy courses
• Experience supervising secondary science teacher candidates
• Experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate students
• Experience with integrating engineering design in K-12 science, teaching K-12 computer science, and/or implementing artificial intelligence in K-12 STEM

Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
