NOTE: The position is located in Bethesda, MD and work is a hybrid model with one in-office required day, but many in-person required meetings on Capitol Hill, downtown or at in-person fundraisers. POSITION TITLE: SENIOR MANAGER, ADVOCACY AND POLITICAL AFFAIRS REPORTS TO: VICE PRESIDENT, PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY POSITION SUMMARY: Oversee and administer the operations of the American Gastroenterological Association's political action committee (AGA PAC), grassroots advocacy programs and provide strategic guidance to advocacy team. Work with staff and member leadership to implement and develop strategic programs, including fundraising, member education, and disbursements of AGA PAC. Accountable for ensuring that the PAC complies with all relevant legal requirements. Strategize with the advocacy team on evaluation of political candidates and fundraising recommendations that align with AGA's policy priorities. Assist advocacy team by representing AGA at meetings and mobilizing grassroots advocates to help advance AGA's policy priorities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1 . Oversee operations of AGA PAC including generating strategies for fundraising, education, and recognition programs of AGA PAC. Implement fundraising, contribution distribution system and timely preparation and federal compliance reports. 2. Educate AGA members on the mission, goals, and activities of AGA PAC. Provide content for relevant policy communications and publications as needed. 3. Collaborate with Advocacy and Practice staff to develop strategies for political giving and disbursement priorities. 4. Manage, implement and coordinate AGA PAC fundraising events and AGA PAC donor appreciation events. 5. Serve as the staff liaison to the AGA PAC Board of Advisors which includes providing updates on AGA PAC activities, managing meetings and creating agenda materials. 6. Provide Director of Government Affairs and VP of Public Policy political evaluation and fundraising recommendations throughout the election cycle. 7. Work with Director of Government Affairs to align AGA's policy priorities with AGA PAC goals. 8. Represent AGA at fundraising events, legislative meetings, coalition meetings and other events as needed. 9. Coordinate AGA grassroots advocacy campaigns in conjunction with Advocacy and Practice staff. 10. Manage AGA's Congressional Advocates Program (CAP), our grassroots advocacy network and develop strategies and opportunities to increase member engagement, advocacy activities, and opportunities. 11. Play an integral role in the management of AGA's annual Advocacy Day, our annual in person fly-in. 12. Collaborate with the Government Affairs team in advancing AGA's policy priorities through AGAPAC and CAP. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION College degree required EXPERIENCE Individual should have 3-5 years of experience in direct government affairs/grassroots advocacy. Tenure as a grassroots advocacy, political affairs, congressional staff or association staff is preferred. Experience with a health care industry and/or physician PAC is preferred. Outstanding written, oral, organizational and interpersonal skills.
