Job Description:
The Photonics Education Coordinator will provide technical support for AIM Photonics education programming in classrooms, laboratories, or other relevant venues by using appropriate content delivery methods. Supported education activities will center on Si-based photonics and photonics integrated circuits (PICs). The coordinator will help manage and carry out workshops support development of Education content as needed to support AIM Photonics workforce development programming. Coordinator activities will take place at NY CREATES Albany and Rochester facilities as well as AIM partner facilities. It is expected that the AIM Education Technical Coordinator will take an active role in AIM education program development and interact with AIM stakeholders including members, federal sponsors, and university partners including MIT, the University of Rochester, and the Rochester Institute of Technology. It is also expected that they will take part in events and conferences relevant to AIM Photonics as well as report on AIM education programming at educational-based meetings. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support instruction of technical workshops as needed for technician and engineer-level participants.
- Distribute pre- and post-workshop surveys for completion by the participants of the training.
- Maintain and desirable and safe laboratory and classroom conditions.
- Keep the content of the workshops technologically current by revising on a regular basis.
- Prepare new AIM education workshop content based on sponsor requirements and advise and consult on equipment acquisition and technical delivery.
- Adapt new training content for online delivery (live or pre-recorded video, web-based distribution, etc.?)
Other reasonable duties as assigned:
- Maintain good communication with partners and participants.
- Keep record of attendance of participants.
- Maintain training equipment in good working order.
- Order parts needed for the performance of the training.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
- B.S. degree in a relevant field in support of optics, photonics, silicon-based integrated photonics, or silicon-based microelectronics from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- Experience in lab-based instruction and hands-on education content development.
- Required abilities include strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience working with photonic integrated circuits or similar microelectronic systems in a college, university, or industry setting.
