The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) is seeking a creative Copywriter to join our content marketing team. We are passionate about promoting Virginia as a premier travel destination. From our rich history to our vibrant cities and breathtaking landscapes, we help travelers discover the experiences Virginia has to offer.
As a Copywriter passionate about writing through a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) lens, you will be responsible for creating compelling consumer-facing content that aligns with Virginia is for Lover’s brand tone and voice, resonates with our audience, and drives engagement and action. This role will help improve the quality and effectiveness of our website, blog, email campaigns, and marketing materials. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams – including digital marketing, creative, brand, and communications – to produce well-written, targeted copy to drive organic traffic and conversions through engaging and optimized content across multiple platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation: Write high-quality, engaging written content for the VTC blog, website, and email campaigns, focusing on brand storytelling and conversion optimization
- SEO Optimization: Perform keyword research and apply SEO best practices to enhance content visibility and rankings. Ensure all content is optimized for search engines and conversion
- Content Auditing: Proactively audit and update existing website and blog content, refreshing keywords and internal links, and optimizing for user engagement and search/discoverability relevance
- Collaborative Projects: Work closely with designers, marketers, and analysts to ensure consistent messaging across all channels, including social media
- Campaign Development: Write compelling ad copy, landing pages, and marketing content for VTC’s digital campaigns, focusing on generating email leads and increasing engagement
- Project Management: Brainstorm and manage multiple projects, ensuring timely content delivery while juggling various priorities and deadlines
- Content Reporting: Use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to track, analyze, and report on content performance, focusing on improving key performance indicators such as organic traffic, content engagement, and conversions
- Editorial Calendar: Assist with planning and managing the editorial calendar in coordination with the content marketing manager, ensuring timely content updates and campaign launches
Skills:
- Excellent writing, proofreading, and editorial skills with ability to write for different platforms and audiences
- Strong research skills to ensure content accuracy and authority
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
- Ability to adapt to changing trends and algorithms in search engine optimization
- Knowledge of Virginia tourism is a plus
Experience:
- At least two years of professional copywriting experience with a focus on SEO
- Experience with content management systems
- Experience with project management tools like Asana and familiarity with Canva, Sprout Social, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
- Valid Virginia driver’s license
