The University of Vermont seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computational Linguistics with a research agenda that focuses on critical applications of language-related technologies (LLMs, Voice Assistants, automated voice interfaces, etc.) towards addressing social problems (including racial disparities, gender inequities, and more). The position will start in Fall 2025. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be invited to contribute to an ongoing NSF-funded interdisciplinary project called the Science of Online Corpora, Knowledge, and Stories, which deploys high-performance computing tools and environments to engage in research at the intersection of computer science, the social sciences, and the humanities (https://www.uvm.edu/socks/). Applicants must hold a PhD in Linguistics or a related discipline with strong skills in computational social science and/or data analytics. Candidates must have a promising publication record, potential for extramural funding, and excellent teaching and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will develop a vigorous research program and actively seek extramural funding, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and advise undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to professional contributions and service. Interest in interdisciplinary approaches and/or interdisciplinary collaboration is desirable.
